From Medium.com publication to a global industry movement, with a heart
Jay Stansell publishes one of the first product management articles on Medium.com, and identifies the scale opportunity.
Medium.com release a "publications" feature. Jay starts a publication called "Managing Digital Products" and spends his evenings recruiting the very best product management writers from around the world as writers.
Jay Stansell creates the domain ProductCoalition.com and the publication as we know it today is born. The purpose is to encourage knowledge sharing from passionate product people worldwide, regardless of their writing skills.
A Slack community is created to encourage real time conversation and chat between community members globally.
Commitment to growing the publication readership and support the growing Slack community which has become truly global.
As publication readership grows beyond 500k users, and Slack community breaks through 6,000 global subscribers, two new podcast series, Melbourne and Sydney, are launched with tremendous feedback.
Jay travel to Europe to interview over 50 product leaders to raise support and funds for the bushfire affected communities and wildlife of Australia
In April 2020, after loosing a family member to COVID-19, Jay creates a unique movement, to support healthcare workers globally. In 5 business days Jay creates, organises and executes a livestream that he hosts non-stop for 24 hours, with 44 speakers across 20 time zones, and attracts more than 5,000 attendees. This results in a seismic shift of 50% of the audience supporting their countries healthcare workers, where they previously had not. Over 30,000 minutes of content are watched around the world, across 5 continents.
From 2014 to 2020, all time, effort and commitment to growing and supporting the community was 100% voluntary. Not a single dollar was taken, nor asked for. Sponsorships, partnerships, buy-out offers were all rejected. With such significant growth over this period through to 2020, the Product Coalition community needed more firm support for the short and long term. "Members, at ProductCoalition.com" was inspired by an article Jay wrote on February 11th, 2016, titled "Birth of the Digital Polymaths". Product Coalition Membership is a low-cost membership solution that; funds the community growth; funds mentorship programmes for product people in the world's least developed nations; allows the product community globally to share knowledge whilst earning.
